Newest Birds of the World Checklist Published

Bird Studies Canada Reported that the newest “Birds of the World Checklist” has been published.

The Howard and Moore Complete Checklist of the Birds of the World is one of the most authoritative publications on bird taxonomy. The first of two volumes of the fourth edition has recently been published. It contains the names of all of the world’s bird species and subspecies, as well as concise range descriptions, and thousands of useful footnotes and references. This is a long-awaited and major update to the third edition, published in 2003.   Bird Studies Canada and our Senior Scientist Denis Lepage were both centrally involved in this publication. BSC provided the servers and database for hosting the taxonomic database. Denis Lepage played a key role as the database manager, and in the development of online editing and publication tools for the editorial team.    North American readers can purchase the book online from Buteo Books. Volume 2 can be ordered at a discounted pre-sale price now, and is expected later this year.
