Birding Tilden Park: Jewel Lake 1/1/13

Updated with new photo gallery

I went to Tilden Park today to do a short walk out to Jewel Lake and was pleasantly surprised to meet some of  my friends from birding classes there with the same plan. We didn’t get a lot of species, only 14. We did get to see a female Hooded Merganser and Townsend Warbler making it a rewarding walk. There was also a lot of Ruby-crowned Kinglet activity with at least six seen. In addition to the Hooded Merganser the lake had a number of Buffleheads and Mallards. Also the immature Band-tailed Pigeon was an uncommon sighting for all of us. I didn’t do well with photos today however Bob Stokstad did much better so I posting a gallery of his photos. To see today’s list go to: Jewel Lake Birdlist 1/1/13
