Birding Aquatic Park – Berkeley 12/22/12

I went birding at Aquatic Park in Berkeley, which is next to interstate 80.  I haven’t been here in several months and was overdue for a visit as I consider it one of my patches on eBird. There was a break in the rain or at least I thought so I did a quick trip over. The weather held out for a while but the last half hour started with a drizzle that turned into rain that turned into a heavy downpour as I reached the car.

I was able to identify  20 species and heard a few more. I mostly stayed near the water so I am sure I missed a few birds in the trees. The most dominant birds were Scaup, Coots, Bufflehead. Double-crested Cormorants, Mallards and Hybrid Ducks. Personal highlights were getting to see a Red-breasted Merganser, getting good looks at Goldeneye and a Great Egret letting me close enough to get some close head shots.
