One of the most popular dirt roads in giant Death Valley National Park will close to the public for over six months, the National Park Service announced on Monday.

Spanning around 3.4 million acres, Death Valley National Park is the largest national park in the contiguous U.S. — and many park aficionados say the best way to experience Death Valley is by venturing off the limited paved roads that cut through the park. The park also holds the title of “more miles of roads than any other national park,” according to the Park Service, with the majority of those being either improved or unmaintained dirt roads.
