For the past three months we’ve been working hard to select a name that not only better reflects our mission but also plays a key role in welcoming new birders and advocates into our community.
Last night, a vote from our members made it official.
Today, we welcome you to the alliance.
Throughout our process, we were reminded over and over again from our members and community-at-large, that we don’t do this conservation work alone. We do this work to protect birds and their habitat together. This is what it means to be an alliance.

Golden Gate Bird Alliance embodies our legacy, mission, and values Golden Gate provides continuity with the past and honors our chapter’s geographic region and ecology. The strait connecting San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean reminds us that our work at a local level has impacts far beyond our own backyard. Bird explicitly conveys our mission. For those unfamiliar with our work: We work to inspire people to protect Bay Area birds and our shared natural environment. Put simply, we’re here for the birds and everything they represent. Alliance implies collaboration by a broad community of people. We are part of a larger network of bird conservation organizations. We work alongside environmental nonprofits. And we depend on our own membership to grow and diversify to support our mission. |

While still retaining our affiliation with National Audubon and our relationships with other chapters, Golden Gate Bird Alliance marks a new phase for us as we take one more step toward building a more inclusive and diverse organization. We are proud of our new name and hope this change creates a space for all communities to be inspired by and advocate for birds. If you’re not already a member, now is the time to join the alliance, and support the protection of Bay Area birds and their habitat.
