Sequoia National Park updates

UPDATE – The Generals Highway is currently closed above Hospital Rock in Sequoia National Park. It is not possible to see giant sequoias via the Sequoia National Park entrance currently.
Road crews are working hard on the section between Hospital Rock and the Giant Forest, but the damage it sustained in the original storm and the fact that much of it is now under a substantial quantity of snow prevent us from having a time estimate yet as to when it will reopen! We will keep you posted as more information becomes available. As always, you can get the most up-to-date roads information by calling 559 565 3341, dial 1, and then dial 1 again.

Sad news for the small but devoted fanbase of our far-flung South Fork Campground and nearby trailheads (which lie at the end of a very rough, long road even under favorable weather conditions) – the recent storms have done extensive damage to this area, including major flooding and landslides.
The campground is currently unusable and closed, and the road has suffered severe damage and is impassable. We strongly discourage hikers or day users from attempting to explore this area, as both the road and the hillsides may be unstable, and should you need help, it would be very difficult to provide it.
Damage from these storm systems across the parks is still being assessed. Staff have not been able to access all areas yet. We will keep you informed with updates as they become available!
