Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Road Updates

A lot of work and long hours for our crews, but we’re happy to announce that the Generals Hwy in Sequoia National Park will reopen partially on Saturday 1/7 at about 10 a.m. Visitors will be able to drive up to the Giant Forest Museum where they can park and explore the area on foot. There will be no vehicle access above Giant Forest Museum to the General Sherman Tree, Wolverton, Lodgepole, or Wuksachi. Visitors will be able to access the General Sherman Tree by walking 4 miles round trip.

The General Grant Tree and other sites in Grant Grove of Kings Canyon National Park are open, except Azalea Campground which remains closed until further notice.
Everyone visiting the parks this weekend will be required to carry tire chains or cables. We also suggest having a full tank of gas, bringing food and beverages, warm clothes, and comfortable shoes for wet and icy conditions.
More weather is expected beginning Saturday night. Always call (559) 565-3341 (1,1) for road conditions, chain restrictions, and to make sure the area you are planning to visit is open.
We hope you are able to safely experience your national parks this winter, it is a magical place to be.
