2019 Death Valley Dark Sky Festival March 1st-3rd

Death Valley National Park announces

The Death Valley Dark Sky Festival is Friday through Sunday, March 1st-3rd! Join us to explore the park’s unique landscape and dark night skies that help us better understand the wonders beyond our world. This event is a collaboration between the park, Death Valley Natural History Association, NASA, and many other organizations.

A detailed scheduled will be released soon, so stay tuned to our website calendar. But you can look forward to:

Friday Night
Evening keynote presentation by Michelle Thaller, Assistant Director for Science Communications at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Night Sky Photography Meet Up at Harmony Borax Works

Saturday & Sunday Day Programs
Guided hikes by researchers and park rangers
An exploration fair with hands-on demonstrations at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center courtyard
Family programming outside the visitor center
Planetarium talks hosted by the Maturango Museum
Night sky photography and light pollution talks by Jeremy Evans, International Dark Sky Association delegate

Saturday Night
Evening program by Paul Mahaffy, Director of Solar System Exploration at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Star party at the The Oasis at Death Valley by the Riverside Astronomical Society
Night Sky Photography Meet Up at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes.
