The Eriogonum Society announces

Our annual meeting is a month out.  Following is the somewhat confirmed agenda for the meeting.  The website, https://eriogonum.org will be updated as new details become available.  Consider registering now for this exciting event.  Dr. Reveal had RSABG included as one of his five top locations for hosting the Eriogonum Society meeting.

Thursday (14 June) – Registration and Board meeting – East Class Room.  5:00 reception, Johnson’s Oval at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (RSABG) .

Friday (15 June) – all day at RSABG East Classroom with two half day Eriogonum identification workshop, tours of the RSABG facilities and collections (library, herbarium, grounds, seed storage facility, and plant nursery), a catered dinner, and a talk by Nick Jensen on buckwheats of Tejon Ranch.  .

Saturday (16 June) – Field trip to the San Bernardino Mountains.  Naomi Fraga and others will lead the field trips.  Catered dinner and talk that evening.  Annual report from the Board of Directors  Main speaker presentation and possibly another talk on the San Bernardino Mountain buckwheats.

Sunday (17 June) – Field trip to Tejon Ranch led by Nick Jensen.  There are numerous buckwheat species there, including the beautiful endemic Eriogonum calistum.  Dinner on your own.  Official end of the meeting but…..

Monday (18 June) – optional day – mainland coastal area field trip possibly lead by Steve Junak

In addition to Nick’s talk, ideas for other talks include one by Naomi and/or others on the San Bernardino Mountain buckwheats and another by someone in the Eriogonum Working Group on current research on buckwheats (e.g., Peter Pearman and/or Travis Columbus).

If you have not yet reserved lodging while at the meeting, consider the options provided by Naomi Fraga ( see the website, https://eriogonum.org/ )

Also, the ES Newsletter edited by Janel Johnson, will be released shortly.  Look for more information about the meeting, a few plant profiles, and announcement of our first James L. Reveal Grant awardee.  The newsletter will be on the website, https://eriogonum.org.

Consider gathering seed for the Seed Exchange – James Swayne has stepped down and John Weiser is now our seedex manager.  John has some suggestions that you may be interested in.  More information on the Seed Exchange will be found in the newsletter.
