ScienceDaily wrote about Frogs that hear through their mouths. The Gardiner’s frogs are one of the smallest frogs in the world and live on the Seychelles islands. They do not have a middle ear with an eardrum but are able to croak themselves, and hear other frogs.
Researchers using X-rays found the frogs are use their mouth cavity and tissue to send sound to their inner ears. Through the combination of a mouth cavity and bone conduction the Gardiner’s frogs perceive sound effectively without having a tympanic middle ear.
