One more report that just came in:
Mt. Diablo is fabulous!! Just drive up Summit Rd. and you’ll see poppies galore. The walk off Juniper CG, towards Moses Rock, has good shows of poppies. And to view the fascinating burn site, Muir Picnic Site is good.
The Calphoto Yahoo Group has two new wildflower reports for Mt. Diablo for April 7, 2012
1. April 7 Just got back from hiking the loop from Mitchell Canyon up to Eagle Peak and back, in Mt Diablo. There is a wonderful variety of flowers along that loop, although no “broad vistas” of flowers. A long hike but worth it. We did find a fair number of Mt Diablo Fairy Lantern’s down in Mitchell Canyon – here’s a shot of one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/charlierussell/13709469015/
2. April 6 I had an opportunity yesterday to visit Mt.Diablo at the end of the day yesterday and caught some nice photos of the very nice patch of poppies. The big hill I took photos of last year is much less colorful this year. My friend and I hiked out just over a mile on the Buckeye trail. There were a few fiddlenecks and a few blue dicks. Grass is greening up the hills but I can’t tell if it will get the usual neon green of past years. Photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/25136646@N07
