The San Francisco Chronicle has an article on the on the King Tides that are happening from December 30 to Jan. 2, and from Jan. 29 to 31. These are the highest tides of the year and occur when the tilt of the Earth’s axis and the magnetic pull of the sun and the moon are aligned. Hi Sandy, I am actually more interested in the low tide effect of this alignment of sun and moon, as this will lower the sea almost 1.6′ exposing many areas seldom seen, a great photo outing date as it occures in the afternoon. I will be at Jalama Beach (by Point Conception) to take advantage of the low tides Dec 31 and Jan 1. Best wishes for the new year, hope we get some rain, wat too dry. Spencer

Good Point. Kind tides also mean very low tides as well which also bring lots of interest. Would be curious to see your photos. Happy New Year to you as well.
