Birding Emeryville Shoreline 11/3/13

Today I went birding at the Emeryville shoreline between the fire station and Chinese restaurant.  There was a group of about ten including friends, birding class members and birding class instructor Rusty Scalf.  We specifically went at high tide which was today 6.6 as we had heard there would be hundreds of shorebirds along the rocks then. The highlight was the hundreds of Dunlin, Western Sandpipers, Marbled Godwits and Willets along the shore. There were also a number of Whimbrel and Dowitchers mixed in. There were Brown Pelicans who were having a very successful day fishing. In total we saw about twenty bird species. Not completely sure about the Dowitchers and if we had lesser Scaup.

To see today’s bird list go to: Emeryville shoreline bird list 11/3/13

If you are interested go during a high tide. There are good high tides the next two days.
