More Forests Sacrificed for Vineyards

NPR recently reported on efforts by wine makers  In Sonoma County to clear Redwood and Oak forests and convert the land to vineyards. There have a number of legal battles led by conservation groups to save forests and wildlife habitat from the wine industry.

Although the focus of the article is the local conflicts here in Northern California, it is a global issue. As climate change causes a shift in the world’s wine growing regions, wilderness areas may be threatened in British Columbia and remote areas of China.
