Birding Eastshore State Park 10/21/13

No Burrowing Owls but lots of waterbirds

Today I went to Eastshore State Park and Cesar Chavez Park. I was hoping to see the Burrowing Owl at Cesar Chavez but it was not to be found. However, the water birds have arrived. The water area east of Cesar Chavez and North of Eastshore State Park had many water birds when I first arrived. The tide was approaching its high point for the afternoon. There were many Scaup (those I could ID were Greater Scaup), Ruddy Ducks, Bufflehead, Clark’s and Western Grebes. My most unusual sighting was a Pelagic Cormorant. Almost no shorebirds or waders except for one Great Blue Heron, who flew overhead, a Great Egret and two small peeps that flew off before I could ID them. I also saw a White-tailed Kite at the north end of the Berkeley Meadow. This is the third time in a row I have seen a Kite on the same shrub. To see today’s bird list go to Birding Eastshore State Park 10/21/13
