Natural History Wanderings

Wired reports a Bellbird that has both male and female features and behaviors has been found in New Zealand.  The bird’s DNA shows female but the bird’s feather pattern and behavior has been male(e.g. defending territory). It has made both male and female calls but the male calls have been more frequent. Although transgendered birds have been found before this is the first time for a New Zealand Bellbird.
