The New York Times reported on the successful efforts to stop illegal logging in the winter grounds of the Monarch Butterfly. Mexico plans to expand the program of antilogging patrols payments to residents in rural areas to preserve other forested areas. The program has been a collaboration of government, environment groups and private donations to encourage forest communities in the butterfly areas to plant trees and encourage ecotourism.
