Science Daily recently reported on a study that restored wetlands rarely fully recover. They do not reach a condition comparable to an original wetland. Even though billions of dollars are spent on wetland restoration the results are less than fully successful. The restored wetlands do not recover all of their normal native plants or the rich amounts of organic soil carbon. The passage of time may not help as even 100 years after a restoration a wetland may still not reach its original condition.
