First Record of Giant Ibis In Cambodian Province

A Giant Ibis was recently photographed by a camera trap in the Kampong Som Valley in the Koh Kong Province in Cambodia.  This is the first record of a the Giant Ibis in the province. The Giant Ibis Thaumatibis gigantea

is on the IUCN Red list and is considered critically endangered as there are believed to be only about 100 breeding pairs. The Giant Ibis is the largest Ibis and can get up to nearly 3.5 feet long.  They are found mainly in Cambodia although there may be a few in Laos and Vietnam.
