The LA Times reported that a federal judge ordered three federal agencies to increase their actions on behalf of endangered species. Judge Marilyn Hall Patel said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Forest Service have six months to develop and carry out protections for 40 endangered species. Species include the California condor,California gnatcatcher, San Joaquin fox, Steller sea-lion, Smith’s blue butterfly, ash-gray Indian paintbrush, bird-footed checkerbloom, mountain yellow-legged frogs and arroyo toads. The Judge also ordered a halt to construction and public access in the area around Williamson Rock and LIttle Rock Creek Road in Angeles National Forest and closed Cherry Canyon area of Los Padres National Forest to recreational shooting.
