Researchers Discover Gyrfalcons Are Seabirds

New research by Dr. Burnham of the High Arctic Institute of Illinois and University of Oxford and Professor Ian Newton of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Oxford recently discovered that Gyrfalcons are also seabirds.  They attached radio transmitters to the large falcons and discovered that the birds rested on ice and hunted other seabirds including gulls and guillemots.  The Gyrfalcons seem to have the largest documented winter range of any raptor and are the only falcon known to live at sea.  To read more go to:  BBC Nature – Gyrfalcons are ‘secret seabirds’.
