Toyons and Turkey Vultures

Thanksgiving at Pt. Reyes

Toyons, Turkey Vultures and even Turkeys were seen along Lucas Valley on our way to a 5th annual Thanksgiving at Pt. Reyes.  The birds were quite active at Abbotts Lagoon. There were even a few flowers still in bloom in the sandy areas just past the wooden bridge crossing the lagoon.

Bird List for 11/25/10. Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, American Bittern, Scaup, American Coot, Northern Shoveler, Bufflehead, Western Gull, Pied-billed Grebe, a larger  unidentified Grebe, Double-crested Commorant, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Black Phoebe,unidentified Sandpipers, Killdeer, Brewers Blackbird, House Finch, unidentified Wren and White-crowned Sparrow.

Plant List for 11/25/10: Gum Plant, Sea Rocket, Beach Morning  and Glory Beach Dandelion were the main plants in bloom.  There were also a few yellow shrub lupines with flowers and a few dreaded ice plants in bloom.
