Butterfly Talks by Robert Michael Pyle in Santa Cruz, Berkeley and Corte Madera

Robert Michael Pyle is giving  talks about his new butterfly book Mariposa Road this Wednesday 11/17/2010 7:00 pm at Books Inc. at 1760 4th Street Berkeley, CA and Thursday, Nov 18 7:00 pm  at Book Passage at 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera, CA.   The book is about his Big Butterfly Year where he attempts to see as many butterflies as possible in one year similar to a big birding year done by birders.  It is described as

“Part road-trip tale, part travelogue of lost and found landscapes, all good-natured natural history, this volume tracks Pyle’s journey across the United States as he races against the calendar in his search for as many of the 800 American butterflies as he can find.”

Also  Monday, November 15, 2010  7:00 PM to 9:00 PM  Natural Bridges State Beach 2531 W Cliff Dr, Santa Cruz, CA  In addition to the reading, the event will feature lively discussion, music by the 5-Ms (Mostly Mediocre Musical Monarch Mariposas). Refreshments will be served.  Copies of Mariposa Road, along with Pyle’s previous book, Chasing Monarchs, will be available at the Natural Bridges park store for signing by the author. Friends members receive 15% off all purchases.

Robert Michael Pyle (born July 19, 1947 in Denver, Colorado) is a lepidopterist and a professional writer who has published twelve books. He is the founder of the  Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.  He was awarded the  John Burroughs Medal for Distinguished Nature Writing in 1985 and  his 1995 book Where Bigfoot Walks: Crossing the Dark Divide was the subject of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
