Today’s New York Times Technology section has an article combining two of my interests wildlife and photography. It is not about taking beautiful photos of animals.
Earlier this year I mentioned about ten bears being hit by cars in Yosemite National Park. It is estimated over 1, 000, 000 animals and over 200 humans die each year from animal-car related accidents. This story is about projects in California http://www.wildlifecrossing.net/california/ and Maine http://www.wildlifecrossing.net/maine/ to photograph and record the locations of roadkill. The projects ask people to record dead animals they find along the road and send it to their respective state agencies. It is the intent of these projects to increase knowledge and awareness of roadkill. Hopefully, the information will be used to increase measures that cut the number of auto-related deaths for both animals and humans. To read more see the N.Y.
