Update I found one more species: a Western Grebe that I was able to ID from a photo
Yesterday I went birding with friends along the Bay Trail between Point Isabel Regional Park and Shimada Friendship Park in Richmond. The highlight was getting to see a burrowing owl that was pointed out to us by some of the adults with a school group.
The challenge of the day was trying to ID the yellowlegs seen by the bridge at the beginning of the trail. After careful study of the three birds both on the trail and of photos of the birds at home while consulting three field guides we were unanimous in our guess that we had seen a lesser yellowlegs. We didn’t try to guess which dowitchers we were seeing. We also saw about twenty white doves flying around with one rock dove that. We wondered if the white doves might be from a wedding as they are not native nor on any birdlists for the area.
Counting the White Dove we identified 48 different species. To see today’s birdlist of the other 47 go to: Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline Birdlist 12/7/12
