After more than two years in escrow, a 160-acre parcel near the community of Jacumba Hot Springs was recently transferred to Anza-Borrego Foundation. The land, located in the far south end of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, was a donation from the Warmington family and will ultimately be transferred to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park to be preserved in perpetuity. The property, purchased by the family several generations ago, required ten heirs to sign documents for the complex escrow.
This once-private land’s natural and cultural resources are well preserved and populated with undisturbed native plants and animals, including Peninsular desert bighorn sheep and agave. It is also known habitat for the federally listed Quino Checkerspot Butterfly. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the original property owners, in partnership with Anza-Borrego Foundation and the support of California State Parks, this land will be preserved in perpetuity for the benefit of all Californians.
