Fall Colors in Mono County – Mono County Tourism   reports below. See photos at: Fall Colors in Mono County – Mono County Tourism and Film Commission

October 10, 2018: What a week for leaf peeping! If you want to catch the fall colors this year, plan your trip within the next two weeks! You’ll find color just about everywhere in Mono County right now. Some areas are just getting going, others are at full peak, and areas along the top elevations are now past peak.

75-100% Peaking GO NOW! Monitor Pass had great color at the summit yesterday. The large grove of trees east of the summit is perfect for photography later in the afternoon. Sonora Pass, Upper Rock Creek and Upper Virginia Lakes still have peaking color in the lower sections of the road closer to US 395 but are now past peak at the highest elevations. Lobdell Lake Road is past peak in sections but go here if you want to find reds and oranges. (See pictures below, AWD is recommended) For hikers, McGee Canyon Trail, Parker Lake Trail, and Lundy Canyon Trail are still highly recommended for this weekend and will be at full peak this week.

50-75% Near Peak Go Now! A lot of areas have been reluctant to turn this year and have yet to hit peak colors. Convict Lake, the June Lake Loop, Lee Vining Canyon, Lundy Lake, Conway Summit, Summers Meadow and Twin lakes Bridgeport still have a lot of green but will be much better this weekend into next week. While most of these areas just met the 50% mark, you’ll still find sections and groves of peaking yellows and oranges that are ahead of the curve.

Past Peak: Sagehen Summit and the upper sections of Tioga Pass are now past peak but if you’re driving through these areas you still still find some sections and groves still hanging around. Sonora Pass, Upper Rock Creek and Upper Virginia Lakes still have some great color in the lower sections closer to US 395 but are past peak near the top of the roads.
