Bear Valley Wildflowers 3/23/16

Where to photograph in California – Yahoo Groups (Calphoto) reports

I drove through Bear Valley today, the bloom isn’t very good when compared to other years. The valley floor has some nice stands of Cream Cups, but not as extensive as I’ve seen in prior years. A great stand of Blue Dicks just as you come into the valley. A number of other flowers scattered about (Butter n Eggs, Larkspur, Bird’s Eye Gilia, Goldfields), but not big vistas. Hardly any poppies. The road in has some nice flowers, even a couple of hillsides of poppies, but not extensive. Of course, the nice display of Tidy Tips at the corral at the beginning of the road is always appreciated.

Ahh, but you missed the Adobe Lilies still in bloom south of the bridge in the middle of Bear Valley. Look for them on the west side of the road, along with some Zigadene Lilies. We saw about 2 dozen in that area on March 23. Also, the Burrowing Owls at the north end of BV Rd. have a youngster, which was great to see!
