My 2016 Great Backyard Bird Count Totals

This year we counted birds for an hour or more all four days of the 2016 Great Backyard Bird Count. (Feb.12 to Feb. 15).  We had a total of 26 species. 20  species were or heard from our yard and six more species were added by walking around the nearby neighborhood on day 3 (2/14/16).  It was the first time we have ever seen Brewer’s Blackbird in our neighborhood. Other especially good sightings for our area were Nutall’s and Downy Woodpeckers, Black Phoebe and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.   Over 130,000 checklists have been submitted and over 5040 species have been recorded and lists are still being submittedTo learn more about the Great Backyard Bird Count go to http://gbbc.birdcount.org
