Calphoto has a new wildflower report for Mt. Diablo for the Devil’s Elbow Trail
hiked the Devil’s Elbow Trail on Mt.Diablo,
almost at the top of the mountain. The poppies are back, nearly as good
as they were last year and visible from the road in large fields. Along
the top of the mountain, wallflowers are out in force. Other flowers
were red larkspur, many kinds of lupine, hound’s tongue, baby blue eyes,
shooting stars, blue dicks, a few goldfields, milkmaids and a pink form
of vetch. There were quite a few tiny flowers also that I don’t know.
The grass is quite green at the bottom of the mountain, but as you go up
to the top, it looks dry still and even the fields that have poppies are
quite dry.
