The Sacramento Bee reported on the impacts of the drought on waterfowl. Bird habitats have been dramatically reduced in size as wildlife refuges have had water supplies cut by 25 percent. Birds will be crowded into smaller areas increasing the risk of botulism which can kill thousands of birds. 17,000 waterfowl have already died at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
