Joshua Tree National Park has posted a new wildflower report of for 5/2/14. They report:
Various species of cactus are blooming throughout the park, look for the pink blooms of the hedgehog cactus (Echinocereus engelmannii) and beavertail prickly pear cactus (Optunia basilaris var. basilaris) along the north entrance. Drive the Queen Valley Road, Geology Tour Road or hike through Lower Covington Flats for an array of different flowers in bloom. South of the Cottonwood Visitor Center look for the yellow flowers of the palo verde (Parkinsonia florida).
