Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve Report 4/25/14

Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve SNR has a new wildflower update for April 25, 2014

It looks like the peak is passed now, but it will be a slower decline this season with poppies still blooming at least until Mother’s Day.  There are many more buds still developing.  The best patches of poppy blooms right now are pretty far down the Antelope Trail, but Kitanemuk Vista Point is definitley the best spot- the purple Lacy Phacelia is making a beautiful carpet of purple with poppies, pincushion, and other flowers among them.  The view over the poppies all over the south-facing slopes is worth the hike up there.

However, we’re in for some bad weather this weekend.  We may be getting some rain tonight which will extend the bloom, but the poppies will be closed up because of cold winds.
