Where to photograph in CaliforniaYahoo Groups has the following wildflower report for the Santa Ana Mts.
Santa Ana Mountains not far from Lake Elsinore (near hwy 15). Many burn areas are full of wildflowers. I think this August 2013 fire was called the Fall Fire.
Most prolific are the gorgeous Canterbury Bells. Three or more types of lupine, jewel flower, wind poppies, coastal bush monkey flower (red and yellow are just starting), onions, and many more. Rob Badger and I were surprised to see so many and such a variety despite the drought. They may get some rain on Wednesday. Thick fog this morning so great atmospherics and dew.
You can see the burn on route 74 above Lake Elsinore. Recommend stopping at large pull outs and look around. If driving west some of the best flowers were found if you climbed over the low edge of the road cut.
You can also access the burn area off S. Main Divide across from Blue Jay Campground.
Pockets of carpets of Canterbury Bells and popcorn flower and lots of green (plants not yet in bloom). Great variety for close up.
