The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has an article on how birds survive cold winter conditions. They include
- Staying in flocks to have more protection from predators and help finding food
- Eating as much as possible especially heavy and fatty foods
- Puffing up as feathers keep cold away and help keep heat in.
- Avoid Wind
- Roost in a cavity
