Today I went to the Albany Mudflats as I had heard there were a lot of water birds there. I saw my first Canvasback and Northern Shovelers of 1914 2014. Both were in good numbers as were American Avocets, Green-winged Teal, American Wigeon and Ruddy Ducks. I even found one Eurasian Wigeon. I saw a total of 19 different species. It was slightly after high tide and the sun was to my back so the water birds were very colorful. Although the views were good they weren’t close enough for too many photos without a large telephoto lens.
On the way home I again saw the Wild Turkeys that were hanging out on Masonic Street near Santa Fe and the BART tracks in Berkeley.
Here is my bird list for today: Albany Mudflats Bird List 1/5/14

Thanks for catching the error. Don’t think I saw any birds in 1914 as its quite a while before I was born.
