The BBC reported that England is creating 27 new marine conservation zones to protect wildlife in the seas off the English coast. The conservation zones will help to protect seahorses, coral reefs and oyster beds by preventing dredging and bottom-trawling.
The Marine Conservation Society pointed out this is still fewer than a quarter of the number of Marine Conservation zones recommended by scientists to complete an “ecologically coherent” network.
