ScienceDaily reported on a study that by protecting land on just 17 percent of the planet two-thirds of the world’s plant species could be preserved. The challenge is protecting land in key areas that are rich in endemic species, such as Madagascar, New Guinea and Ecuador. This requires a significant increase in protecting new areas.
