San Juan National Forest has a fall color report for 9/12/13

Estimated Percentage of Current Fall Foliage:

  • Durango – 0%
  • Silverton – 5% aspens
  • Pagosa – 0%
  • Dolores/Rico – 0%
  • Mancos – 0%

Areas with Greatest Amount of Color / Recommended Viewing Areas: Silverton/Lake City area and above. 10,000 to 12,000 feet

Estimated Peak Viewing Period:
Highest country, next weekend (Sept 21-22).
Other passes/ high elevation aspen groves.

Viewing Suggestions / Tips:
Colors starting to change in Silverton but not much elsewhere.

Trees That Are Currently Turning Color:
Aspens, grasses and low scrub oak.
