Leaf Mimics

NPR wrote about katydids that look like leaves. Mimic katydids not only look like leaves they look like all kinds of leaves including torn, rotten, dried-up and decayed leaves. Each mimic katydid is different.

The reason for this adaptation is to hide from tamarind monkeys, who are their  main predators. The monkeys are intelligent and would learn to identify the katydids if they only had a few variations in appearance.
