Calphoto has a report from a four-day trip to the Sierra:
One day hiking Wrights Lake to Island. Great alpine flowers above 8000 ft., especially around the edges of Island. Note: no trail, cross- country.
Carson to Lake Winnemucca is peaking, tho I strongly recommend cross-counrtying it above the trail, around the lower edges of Elephant Back. Please be cautious to not trample the flowers.
Winnemucca to Round Lake is gorgeous, not quite peak. Round Lake to Round mountain is drop dead gorgeous. Steep, and no official trail.
Took PCT from Lower Sunset Lake to Raymond Peak, and it is stupendous. Nice cross-country route towards Raymond Springs, unmarked and steep.
Last day was a mind- and eye-blowing climb up Red Lakes Peak. OMG, what a bonanza. No trail and steep.
I do not keep any list in my travels, but I’m sure we saw at least a hundred different species in the four days.
