Ennis, Texas Wildflower Update 4/23/13

Wildflower Haven has a new report for Ennis, Texas

I got in from my Ennis trip Monday night around 8pm. In total, I spent over 12 hours on the Ennis area roads spread over 3 days. Pretty much all of the “favorite usual” spots were nearly void of bluebonnets or any wildflowers for that matter. Locations like Andrews RD and FM-813 were nothing like they were last year, but had a few nice spots if you walked along the extent of the field. I was at Andrews RD early on Sunday morning and it was funny to see some people would stop at the middle of the field where hardly any blooms were. They would take a few photos, get in their car and drive right past the end of the field where it was the most dense with blooms. I did alert a few that I met while there. Same thing on FM-813 on the west leg past the intersection with 879. If you drive around the corner going west on FM-813, you might miss the nice spot on the east end of the field on the right.

Here were my top spots:

  • Andrews RD
  • Hornik RD (the red house and the old barn)
  • Creechville RD (1181)- between Hornik RD and Spence RD.
  • FM-813 west of FM-879

I came across several other nice spots that for me were interesting but not full blue with bluebonnets. These were spots were the bluebonnets were mixed with other wildflowers (many were perennials responding to the rainfall in the past 30-60 days). I ate my Subway sub along Parker Hill RD next to a field of bluebonnets going up a small hill. A clear air day with a sky filled with pillow clouds and nothing but the sound of birds singing with a little muffled sound of I-45 in the distance.

We have had a wonderful bluebonnet season in Ennis in 2013! Other areas that showed nice bluebonnets are Mach Road, Sugar Ridge Road, Hwy 85 and Valek Road. We are at the end of the season but have had thousands of bluebonnet seekers that were thrilled with the bluebonnets they saw on the trails! We were blessed with the season we had! You can go to Ennis Convention and Visitors Bureau Facebook page and see some of the photos that have been posted by our visitors! God’s glory at its best! We always encourage checking the website of http://www.visitennis.org for the latest status before your visit each year! Thank you from Ennis… the “Official Bluebonnet City and Trail of Texas!”
