Calphoto : Where to photograph in California had the following wildflower post for Joseph Grant Park in Santa Clara county. The 9,560 acre park is the largest Santa Clara County’s regional park. Its landscape is characteristic of the east foothills of the Santa Clara Valley with grasslands and majestic oak trees. It is located at 18405 Mt. Hamilton Rd., San José, CA.
Lots of color, the grasses are still mostly green, and a nice variety of blooms, not super dense (I guess not much is this year) but large fields of flowers, very satisfying and worthy of a visit if you’re a wildflower addict around San Jose.
Some of the species seen: popcorn flower, fiddlenecks, checkerbloom, johnnytuck, blue-eyed grass, several different lupines, a few different native clover, clarkia, johnny jump-ups, poppies here and there, even large swaths of buttercups still in the shade.
We did a loop from the Grant Lake parking lot: Halls Valley trail, Canada
de Pala, Yerba Buena
