Birding Alviso Park 3/17/13

American Avocets

American Avocets by Sandy Steinman

Today I was birding at Alviso Marina County Park in the south bay. Alviso Marina County Park is an 18.9-acre bayside park and considered the gateway to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It includes pathways and boardwalks along the marshes in the County Park and trails around the ponds in the adjacent Wildlife Refuge. Today’s highlights were the many American Avocets in breeding color and many Black-necked Stilts. Also of interest was watching a Northern Harrier hunting. I identified twenty-eight birds today.
