Burrowing Owls and Birding Eastshore State Park

Today we went to look for the Burrowing Owls near the Soccer Fields just south of Gilman St. in Berkeley. Both owls appeared within the orange fenced areas and the one closer to the Bay was most cooperative with onlookers and photographers. We continues south along the Bay Trail through East Shore State Park and Berkeley Meadow until University Av. It is embarrassing to admit I have never done this walk before even though it is very close to home. I am confident I will be back on it again in the near future as it is less heavily traveled than many other urban trails and was very birdy. Tides were high so many water birds were in close. My favorites of the day were the Burrowing Owls, Kites hovering and the good looks at the Surf Scoters. I identified 38 species plus scaup . To see today’s list go to: Birding East Shore Sate Park

Great expression in that burrowing owl. Cool that the scoter came so close, too.

Thanks. Definitely a good day for bird photography. One very cooperative owl and high tides had the Surf Scoters in close.
