The ongoing story of how the state parks department hid $54 million dollars
The LA Times reported on the findings of the California State Attorney General”s investigation into what happened to the $54 millions of dollars hidden by the state parks department. The money had been hidden for years. A new employee discovered the hidden money and described the department as operating in a culture of secrecy and fear. It seems initially there were unintentional accounting errors that when discovered were deliberately covered up. $20 million was also deliberately hidden. Officials apparently were motivated by embarrassment and fears of budget cuts.
