Today I went birding on a different section of the Bay Trail in Richmond, CA. I started by the Rosie The Riveter Visitor Center and the nearby viewing platform and walked to the Marina and back. The highlight of the birding was seeing a Black-crowned Night-Heron and three American Pipits. It was a good day for viewing Grebes as there were many Horned, Western, and Clark’s on the bay. Twenty-three bird species were seen although I’m not sure which Scaup was seen today.
I also visited the new Rosie the Riveter Visitor center which has interesting exhibits and a film about war-time Richmond. The exhibit talked about how Richmond went from a small town of a little over 20,000 to city of over 100,000 that was a large shipbuilding center and location of other war-time industries . It included how the workforce struggled with gender and racial equality. The organized health care system for the workers was criticized for being socialism. Themes that unfortunately we are still struggling with today.

I also had another interesting birding experience this week. I got to add Wild Turkey to my yard list as 15 Wild Turkeys came marching down the street and sidewalks in front of my house yesterday.
