The BBC reported on a plan in Cuba to turn the weed Maribu into an alternative energy source. Maribu is a tall woody weed that can grow as high as a trees and has been invasive to large areas of farm land. Cuba has allowed British and Brazilian companies to see if they can turn the unwanted weed into an alternative energy source. This would be a green improvement as Cuba currently depends on diesel-powered energy stations which are even more polluting than coal.
