The BBC reports on the creation of two new areas of marine protection off the coastline of Northern Ireland. The sea and seabed surrounding the Maidens Islands off Larne and those next to the Portrush Skerries and Giant’s Causeway have been designated Areas of Conservation. The area around the Maidens includes sandbanks, reefs and grey seals. The Skerries and Causeway area includes sea caves, sandbanks and reef provides.
