The Sacramento Bee had an article on good locations to photograph poppies at: California beauties: The best places to find, photograph poppies – Wildflowers – The Sacramento Bee.

I would also add the Merced River Canyon. See Michael Frye’s posting: Redbuds and Poppies. He reports the poppies are still doing well on at Calphoto   and will probably continue to be good for two more weeks.
